Sins covered!!!

Moses in Psalm 90 talks in length about the brevity of Life. He talks about sorrow, death and especially about the wrath of God towards Man. He says how fragile life is.

And in the midst of saying so much,he reveals a shocking fact as the reason in verse 8:
'You have set our iniquities before, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.'
All our sins are before the face of God. Everything done in secret is before Him. And as a reason, he continues to say in verse 9:
'For all our days have passed away in Your wrath;we finish our years like a sigh'
As someone rightly said that Moses was so qualified to speak about death in his psalm as he witnessed one whole generation being wiped out from the face of the earth.

He sensed that the sins of children of Israel are before God’s throne and His wrath is consuming them away.
Again and again you’ll see in the Bible, that the sins of man are before the face of God.

After committing adultery, David cries in Psalm  51
' Hide Your face from my sins,And blot out all my iniquities.'
David cannot imagine his sins before God’s face and cries that they be blotted out.
Many psalmist have dreaded this fact of God remembering their sins and have said:
'If You, LORD, should mark iniquities,O Lord, who could stand?'
'For in Thy sight no man living shall be justified.'
Throughout psalms: You’ll see psalmist pleading that their sins which are before the face of God, be not remembered.

Even the sins of wicked cities like Nineveh, Sodom and Gomorrah reached the throne of God.

We see God talking to Jonah about Nineveh
'For their wickedness has come up before Me'
And about Sodom and Gomorrah, He Says
'And LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grievous, I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me'
God talking to Cain after the murder he committed, says

'The voice of thy brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground'
God talks to Hosea about Israel:
'Ho 7:2 :They do not consider in their hearts [That] I remember all their wickedness; Now their own deeds have surrounded them; They are before My face.'
But this same God is not only the one, who rightfully gets angry over our sins which are before His face, but also He has done great and wonderful things by covering all of them.

The Psalmist of Psalm 85 testifies it.
'You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sin'

Solomon, with God given wisdom, said in proverbs that

"Love covers all sins"
And In New testament, John says that God is love. How wonderful to see that God covers all our sins. This is exactly what the psalmist testified, “You have covered all their sin”
.
Our sins before the throne of God incurred the wrath of God; but this same God full of love has covered all our sins and remembers them no more.

The psalmist in psalm 89 says
'Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face'
No doubt our sins were before the face of God, but the psalmist says that mercy and truth are also before His face

He had all the right to judge our sins. But our Just God, in bringing about justice; showed mercy towards us and poured the whole wrath of our sins on His only Son –Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ had all the right to sit back on His throne and watch our sins being judged before His face. But He rather chose to leave His throne for a moment, to come down to this earth as  a Man and die for those very sins before the throne of God.

He looked beyond the sins to see, we sinners and wanted us to be before His throne instead of our sins. And in showcasing His Love, He has covered all our sins.

The Hebrew writer clearly says:
'Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.'
I have no clue why we sinners should be the Joy of the LORD.

Why should Christ instead of watching our sins being judged, set joy before His face to endure the cross and despise the shame of it?

We could not cover our sins on our own, as Solomon has rightly said:
"He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper;but whoso confesseth and forsaketh [them] shall obtain mercy”.
Christ with His love has covered our sins.

We see in New Testament, John writing of the love of God being manifested through His Son and life we have received thereby.
'In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him'
Once upon a time, our sins were before the face of God, inviting His wrath.

Today though Lord Jesus Christ, we stand at that very same place;   just because of the Love of God. Paul said that God has made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We are indeed before the throne of God

As the hymn goes

Rise, my soul! Behold 'tis Jesus,
Jesus fills thy wondering eyes;
See Him now in glory seated,
Where thy sins no more can rise

All thy sins were laid upon Him,
Jesus bore them on the tree;
God who knew them, laid them on Him,
And, believing, thou art free.

May glory go to His Name. Amen

The Cup of Wrath.

I would like to share some few thoughts on the prayer Christ prayed in the garden of Gethsemane.

In the book of Mark, we see Lord Jesus praying a prayer: “Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt”. In the previous verses, we see Christ in deep agony realizing the cup He would be drinking.

In Psalm 75:8; the psalmist talks that there is a cup in the Hand of the Lord and the wine is red. It’s full of mixture. The wicked of the earth will drain it. He is talking of a cup that’s meant for the wicked of the earth. It’s in the hand of God, ready to be poured out on the wicked.

In Job 21, Job talks of all the wickedness of this earth and about the wicked people; and at the end in verse 20, he says that they shall drink of the wrath of Almighty.

Even Isaiah and Jeremiah have talked about the wrath of God. In Jeremiah 25, we see God commanding an angel to take the cup of wrath from His hand and give it to the wicked nations of the earth. In the chapter, we see the wrath of God brings about desolation, astonishment and a curse. The nations which drink them shall not rise anymore but rather vomit and fall. The cup has been described as the fierce anger of God bringing sword and calamity upon the nations.

In the book of revelation, there is not just one cup but 7 bowls of the wrath of God.

Ezekiel has said the wrath of God is for those who have forgotten God and have put God behind their back.

This cup had all the fierce wrath of God against us. The cup was so intense and bitter because of our evil sins against God. The whole wrath of God against Sin was in that cup and it was just meant for the wicked people of this earth; for people who had forgotten God.

Leave alone; it should be drunk by the delight of the Father’s heart- the Son of God- Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ had all the right to pray the prayer He prayed at the garden. He had all the right to ask the Father to take the cup away from Him and give it to those who deserve it. He had all the right to profess that cup did not belong to Him but to those who had grieved the Father’s heart.

But we see Christ praying “not My will but Yours be done”. Christ submitted to the will of the Father. He willingly agreed to drink the cup which did not belong to Him, to face the fierce wrath of God even though He was sinless. The cup was so bitter that His soul was exceedingly sorrowful unto death. So intense was the wrath that His sweat was no more sweat but big drops of blood. It’s so great to see that Christ agreed to drink the cup full of God’s Wrath for us.

And it even more great to see that it was indeed the Father’s will that His well beloved Son should drink His wrath for wile and loss sinners like us.

From the garden of Gethsemane to the cross; whatever followed was part of the cup. He was determined to drink the cup for us. When Peter chopped the ear of Malcus, He said, “shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?". However bitter the cup was, He endured it. As the writer of Hebrews says- who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame.

He was beaten, bruised, scourged, marred beyond recognition, spat upon, mocked, ridiculed, blasphemed, despised by all men and all the remaining cruelty which words would be insufficient to describe; were all part of the cup of the Wrath of God. Even that he should be forsaken of His own dear Father, was part of the fierce anger of God.

In Psalm 88, the psalmist talking of the messiah says - Your wrath lies heavy upon me. And this exactly what Christ experienced on the cross.

Christ drank the whole cup for us, so that he could victoriously say “It’s finished”. There is not even a single drop left for us. The entire wrath which belonged to us, Christ has drained it completely. The Father chose His Son to place all our sins, shame, guilt and the very wrath he had against us for our sins. His Son having loved us with the very same love which the Father loved Him, agreed till the last drop for dogs like us.

Who were we in the sight of the Triune God that he should do so much for us?

Today what is left for us is not the cup of wrath but as Paul said, it is the cup of blessing which we bless and is the communion of the body of Christ. We can say like the psalmist that our cup runneth over; for He has blessed us with every spiritual blessings in Heavenly Places in Christ.

An old Hymn by A.R. Cousin goes like this

Death and the curse were in our cup

O Christ, ‘twas full for Thee

But Thou has drain’d the last dark drop-

‘Tis empty now for me

That bitter cup – love drank it up;

Now blessings’ draught for me

.

I cannot describe this love’s old story completely, and I know that it’s beyond Human grasp to understand its fullest extent. Right now in earth it sounds so beautiful what Christ has done for us; but I cannot imagine how much more wonderful will it be before the throne of God.

May glory abound to God. Amen

Dear friend,

If you have not surended your life to Lord Jesus Christ, I would urge you to do so. The Bible talks about the wrath of God abiding with the one who does not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Place your trust on Him and be saved from the wrath meant for you. Tomorrow may be too late. Now is the time. Give your life to Him. God Bless.
